Punta Popy is the liveliest of the three main beaches of the tourist centre of Las Terrenas in the north of the Dominican Republic and there is always something happening here. Particularly at the weekends the beach is full of local families who bring their own music with them and fill the beach with the sounds of merengue. Along the beach you will find several beach bars and restaurants who will be happy to serve you with cool mojitos. For the more active, this is a great place to learn kitesurfing because the water is calm and the wind direction and strength are ideal for beginners.
Playa El Portillo is a long beach with golden-yellow sand in the north of the Dominican Republic on the Samaná peninsular. Here you will find several villas and luxurious holiday complexes. The beach is especially popular with local families because of the gently sloping water here. Towards the end of the year when the wind conditions are ideal, kitesurfers come to this beach to take on the wind and waves.
Go kite surfing. The kite-surfing school LTK’iTE offers both introductory and advanced courses December through September (when the winds cooperate best). A two-hour beginner class is $110.
Buy a piece of local art. Brightly colored impressions and representations of Dominican life are available around town. You can buy a piece of low-end factory street art for as little as $25. Prices are negotiable. Offer as little as 30 percent of the asking price to start.
Our family of 4 loved this condo and the easy access to a variety of unique beaches, incredible dining choices and most importantly, opportunities to interact with folks from the area and all over the world. Las Terranas has a wonderful international influence. The condo was impeccably well appointed, and Alma was great at helping us with anything we needed. Would highly recommend this to other adventuresome families!
Just an absolutely gorgeous condo with a beautiful view! We loved the fact that part of the deck was covered so we could sit outside even during the rain, which we unfortunately had way too much during our stay. Kitchen was perfect for our needs and the bed was very comfortable. We only used the AC that was in the bedroom at night and left the windows open everywhere else. Very comfortable and no insects/mosquitoes whatsoever. We mostly walked to the restaurants but also rented an ATV for excursions. A very unique driving experience with scooters everywhere!! Excellent food wherever we went.
